KRM - 001 - Kumarakom

Kumarakom village in Kottayam District is a major tourist attraction in central Kerala. The major attractions of Kumarakom are Bird sanctuary and Vembanad lake. Country boats propelled by boatmen manually by poles, speed boats, motor boats in different passenger capacities, houseboats with full fledged bedrooms, kitchen and other facilities are available for cruise in backwaters. It is situated about 55 kilometers from Cochin via Viakom and 13 kilometers from Kottayam town. The other side of the lake opposite Kumarakom is Alleppey.There are a lot of five, three and two star hotels and resorts available. The major source of income of local people other than tourism is agriculture. Houseboat building has become a new source of income. One can see the work in progress on the banks while cruising through the backwaters.
