In the month of September 2022, Neelakurinji ( Strobilanthes Kunthiana ) has been bloomed widely in the Kallippara hills, Santhanpara gram panchayat. At the time of my visit on 26th October 2022, the Neelakurinji flowers had started to wilt, but the steady flow of visitors to Kallippara hills was still continuing. Anyway for me, despite the wilting of most Neelikurinji flowers, I was able to kind some bunch of fresh flowers here and there on the Kallippara hills and the sight from the top this mighty Ghat mountain range was spectacular particularly the sight of Tamil Nadu plains. After 5 hrs bike ride and travelling 150 kilometres, I reached Kallippara by 12.00 pm. Parked my bike and started trekking to Engineer Hills, Kallippara to explore the mountains. Located 150 kilometers from Kochi, Kallippara hills are situated 10 kilometres from Poopara in Idukki district of Kerala on the Munnar – Kumily (Thekkady) state highway. The speciality of this Neelakurinji flowers is that, it blooms only once in 12 years.
