Departing from the bustling cityscape of Kochi, our adventure unfolds through the picturesque terrains of Kerala and Tamil Nadu.

This video was captured using a GoPro camera mounted as a dash cam. To cover the entirety of a journey of this length in a single day, a GoPro camera requires at least 4 to 6 spare batteries. An ongoing challenge when using the GoPro camera as a dash cam is its tendency to overheat during extended usage. If used continuously for 20 minutes or more, the GoPro camera automatically shuts down to prevent damage. Consequently, one needs to intermittently turn the camera on and off or opt for using two GoPro cameras for continuous video recording during longer journeys. Recording a full journey of this length and beyond with a GoPro camera isn’t a simple task.

As the wheels roll onto NH 544, the journey becomes a symphony of sights and experiences, revealing the diverse tapestry of South India's natural wonders. Traverse through Chalakudy town and witness the transition from urban buzz to serene rural beauty, preparing for an immersive escapade.

The expedition offers glimpses of Kerala's cascading treasures—starting with the majestic Athirappilly Waterfalls, followed by the enchanting Vazhachal Waterfalls. Each stop unveils panoramic vistas and, at Vazhachal Bridge, invites an intimate connection with the sylvan streams and the surrounding forest's grandeur.

Numerous travelers along the Vazhachal – Malakkappara route have reported encountering either a herd of wild elephants or single large tuskers on the road. Fortunately, or unfortunately, we didn’t come across any wild animals during our journey, except for some monkeys and wild boars. If we had encountered them, it could have been a challenging and dangerous situation, given the narrowness of this route—often only wide enough for a single vehicle to pass. Imagine facing a massive wild tusker blocking our path; we would have been completely vulnerable. Travelers considering this route should be prepared for such possibilities and anticipate the unexpected.

Venturing further, the route introduces the Thottapura View Point, providing a breathtaking panorama of the Sholayar Reservoir. Passing through Malakkappara, where Kerala meets Tamil Nadu, the landscape transitions, promising a different facet of natural allure.

Crossing into Tamil Nadu, the journey meanders through the Valparai-Athirappilly Road, gifting scenic marvels like the Sholayar Dam Park and viewpoints offering serene glimpses of the dam and its lush surroundings.

Midway through this exploration, a serene pause amid nature allows for a homemade lunch, a moment to appreciate the beauty enveloping us. Arriving in Valparai, nestled amidst tea estates, the town offers a tranquil retreat, a stark contrast to typical tourist hotspots.

On the return journey, the adventure intensifies, navigating the thrilling series of 40 hairpin bends, each bend promising a new perspective of the Western Ghats' magnificence. Returning through Tamil Nadu to Kerala, landmarks like Aliyar Dam and Park add serene pauses before finally retracing our path back to Kochi, marking the end of an exhilarating odyssey through nature's exquisite landscapes and untamed terrains.

As we continue towards Top Station, the weather transforms from cloudy to a downpour. The drive becomes more exhilarating, setting the stage for the return journey.

However, beyond Bodimettu, the road conditions take a turn. While it's free from potholes, the road narrows significantly, winding its way through the terrain's contours, challenging our journey with each sharp bend.

After conquering approximately 34 kilometers in the Ghats, we reach the plains at Bodinayakkanur, Tamil Nadu. Here, we pause under the welcoming shade of a roadside tree to enjoy a lunch prepared all the way from our home in Kochi. Despite the scorching 12:30 PM heat in Tamil Nadu, the cool, invigorating wind at our chosen rest stop revitalizes us for the road ahead.

Taking a right turn from NH 85 at the Theni bypass junction, we steer towards NH 183, a route that will lead us to Kumily, Kerala, approximately 60 kilometers away. This leg of our adventure will take center stage in our fourth and final installment of this video series.

Experience the Best of Kerala Hills: A GoPro 10 Dashcam Journey from Vagamon to Kochi via Thodupuzha

Join us on an exhilarating journey from the serene hills of Vagamon to the bustling city of Kochi, all captured on our GoPro 10 dashcam. Our trip covered a distance of approximately 103 kilometers and took us through the stunningly beautiful Idukki district of Kerala, India.

We began our journey from the picturesque Holiday Vagamon resort, where we had a memorable stay amid the lush green hills and misty valleys. Our route took us via Thodupuzha, a shorter and less confusing route than the one we took for our uphill journey via Pala. Google Maps also recommended this route, which further added to our confidence in choosing this path.

As we hit the road, we were greeted by winding roads that meandered through tea plantations, dense forests, hills, and hairpin bends. Our GoPro 10 camera mounted on the car windscreen captured every breathtaking moment of our journey, including the stunning views of the Western Ghats and the sprawling valleys.

We took a break for lunch and relished some delicious local cuisine, which is famous for its spices and flavors. The stopover also allowed us to take a closer look at the local culture and lifestyle of the people in this region.

After our rejuvenating break, we continued our drive through the beautiful scenery, and it wasn't long before we reached our home in Kacheripady, Kochi. Kochi, a major port city on the southwest coast of India, is known for its rich history, culture, heritage, and cuisine.

Journey through the Misty Mountains: A Dashcam Tour from Kochi to Vagamon via Pala with GoPro 10

Hello and welcome to our dashcam video of our road trip from Kochi to Vagamon via Pala. In this video, we will take you on a journey through some of the most scenic routes of Kerala and show you the mesmerizing beauty of Vagamon, a serene and picturesque hill station.

Starting Point and Route: We started our journey from Kochi, the commercial capital of Kerala, and drove along Thrippunithura, Mulanthuruthy, and Kaduthuruthy. The drive on this route was smooth and pleasant, with lush greenery on both sides of the road. We passed through several small towns and villages, and the scenery was a delight to watch.

Pala: After driving for a few hours, we reached Pala, a town famous for its rubber plantations and churches. The town was bustling with people and had a vibrant atmosphere. We stopped briefly to take in the sights and sounds of the town before continuing our journey.

Erattupetta-Vagamon Road: From Pala, we took a left turn and followed the Erattupetta-Vagamon road, which is a winding and narrow road with many hairpin bends and steep slopes. The road passes through lush green hills, tea estates, and spice gardens, providing a breathtaking view of nature. The road is well-maintained, and driving on it was an exciting experience.

Karikadu View Point: One of the highlights of this road is the Karikadu View Point, where we stopped for a while to enjoy the panoramic view of the valleys and mountains. This point is also known for its misty fogs and a panther statue that adds to its charm. We could see the road to Vagamon zig-zagging the hills beyond. It was a breathtaking sight that we captured on our GoPro 10 camera.

Vagamon: We resumed our drive and reached Vagamon after covering 112 kilometers from Kochi. Vagamon is a serene and picturesque hill station with a pleasant climate throughout the year. It has many attractions such as meadows, waterfalls, religious sites, and adventure activities. We stayed at the Holiday Vagamon resort, which is a cozy and comfortable place with a great view of the surroundings.

Return Journey: On our return journey, we chose the alternative route via Thodupuzha, which is also a good and scenic road with about 10 kilometers less distance than the Pala route. The drive on this route was equally pleasant, with scenic views of the hills and valleys.
