Encountering the Majestic Tusker: A Rare Glimpse into Anakulam's Wild Heart

Anakulam, nestled in the verdant hills of Idukki, Kerala, is a place where nature reigns supreme. Known for its frequent elephant sightings, it's a haven for wildlife enthusiasts. During our recent visit, we were fortunate enough to witness something truly extraordinary – a majestic wild tusker joining a herd of elephants, a sight rarely seen by visitors.

Typically, the tranquil waters of Anakulam pond attract elephant herds, including adorable calves, seeking respite from the heat. On this particular afternoon, however, we were treated to a spectacle far beyond our expectations. As we arrived, a herd of elephants, with mothers and their young ones, were already enjoying the cool water. But our attention was drawn to a magnificent tusker, standing tall and proud, hidden amidst the lush foliage of the nearby forest.

For a while, the tusker remained a silent observer, gracefully reaching for leaves from the towering trees. Then, with a slow, deliberate gait, he emerged from the shadows and joined the herd in the water. The sight was breathtaking. The sheer size and presence of the tusker, combined with the playful energy of the calves, created a magical tableau.

We spent two hours in awe, watching as the tusker interacted with the herd, sharing the water and the moment. It was a privilege to witness these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat, undisturbed and free. As the sun began to dip below the horizon, the tusker, with a final glance, turned and disappeared back into the forest, leaving us with memories that will last a lifetime.

This encounter was a reminder of the raw beauty and untamed spirit of Anakulam. It’s a place where nature's drama unfolds in all its glory, and where every visit holds the promise of a unique and unforgettable experience.

If you're planning a trip to Kerala, make sure to include Anakulam in your itinerary. It’s a chance to witness the wild heart of Kerala and experience the magic of its wildlife.

Fort Kochi's Dramatic Sunset: A Time-Lapse Journey After the Summer Rain

There's something truly magical about Fort Kochi, especially when the sky paints itself with hues of gold after a summer evening rain. On March 22, 2025, I found myself captivated by this very spectacle. Armed with my camera, I set out to capture the fleeting beauty of the sunset at Fort Kochi beach, and what unfolded was nothing short of a visual symphony. This wasn't just another sunset; it was a moment where the rain-washed atmosphere transformed into a canvas of dramatic skies and tranquil waters.

As the rain subsided, a sense of anticipation filled the air. The clouds, still heavy with moisture, began to break, revealing patches of blue amidst the grey. The sea, mirroring the sky, reflected the changing light, creating a mesmerizing dance of colors. The rocky breakwater, a signature feature of Fort Kochi, stood as a silent witness to this transformation. The air was fresh, carrying the scent of the sea and the lingering coolness of the rain. The sounds of gentle waves lapping against the shore and the distant chatter of visitors added to the serene ambiance.

This 50-second time-lapse compresses the beauty of the golden hour into a short, yet powerful visual story. I watched as the sky transitioned from a moody, cloudy expanse to a warm, golden embrace. The light, filtering through the remaining clouds, created a dramatic interplay of shadows and highlights. Each frame captured the subtle shifts in color and the gradual evolution of the scene. It was a reminder of how fleeting and precious these moments are, and how fortunate we are to witness them.
I invite you to experience this magical sunset through my time-lapse video. Let the visuals transport you to Fort Kochi and immerse you in the beauty of this coastal paradise. A Daily Delight: Witnessing the Indian Pond Heron in My Kerala Backyard | Birdwatching in Kochi

Nestled in the heart of Kochi, Kerala, my backyard has become a stage for a daily natural spectacle that fills me with joy and wonder. Every morning, as the sun gently kisses the lush greenery, a special visitor graces my garden with its presence – the elegant Indian Pond Heron (Ardeola grayii).

This beautiful bird has become a regular fixture, arriving punctually each day to embark on its insect-hunting expeditions. With its characteristic streaked neck, warm brown plumage, and sharp, probing beak, the Indian Pond Heron is a sight to behold. It moves with a quiet grace, its eyes keenly scanning the foliage for any sign of movement.

Recently, I had the pleasure of capturing a serene moment on video. Perched on a branch just outside my window, the heron took a brief respite from its foraging. In the video, you can witness its calm demeanor, its thoughtful pause amidst the hustle of nature. It’s a testament to the tranquil beauty that wildlife brings to our daily lives, even in the midst of urban settings.

The Indian Pond Heron: A Suburban Companion

The Indian Pond Heron is a common sight across the Indian subcontinent, thriving in diverse habitats ranging from wetlands and ponds to gardens and even urban landscapes. Its adaptability is truly remarkable. In my own backyard, it has found a sanctuary, a place where it can hunt, rest, and simply be.

Observing this bird has been a lesson in patience and appreciation for the natural world. It reminds me that nature is not confined to remote wilderness areas; it exists right outside our doors, if only we take the time to notice. The heron’s daily visits have transformed my backyard into a personal nature reserve, a place where I can connect with the rhythms of life.

Birdwatching in Kochi: A Hidden Gem

Winding roads weave through emerald tea plantations, spice gardens, and quaint villages, gradually leading you deeper into the heart of the Western Ghats. The Enigma of Anakulam: Why Elephants Gather Here

What makes Anakulam so special? Why do these majestic creatures congregate here almost every evening? The answer lies in the unique composition of the stream that flows through this serene locale. Kochi-Munnar road trip: Journey captured on rear car dash cam

This is a video of my car journey from Kochi to Munnar captured on the rear dash camera. The beautiful views of the journey to Munnar via Aluva, Perumbavoor, Kothamangalam, Neryamangalam, and Adimali are included in this video.

This journey, filmed with the help of the 70May A510s dash cam, passes through the roads of Kochi city, small towns like Perumbavoor, Kothamangalam, and Adimali, and passes through the mountains and forests from Neryamangalam to Munnar.

I have first presented the three-minute highlight of this Kochi-Munnar journey, which is about three and a half hours long. The journey I took from Kochi to Munnar was 132 km. It took about four and a half hours to cover this distance, including stopping the vehicle for breakfast.

The quality of the rear camera is poor compared to the front dash camera. However, the view is immense, and the glare that falls on the front camera is not at all present in the rear camera.

What I mean by this video is that anyone who watches it can understand the Kochi-Munnar route better. That is, the road conditions and all the sights on this route.

There are development works going on in many parts of this highway, which is part of the Kochi-Theni NH 85. You can see that in this video. And I have given the Google Map navigation link of this Kochi-Munnar route below. If you click on it, you can see the route I traveled correctly on Google Maps.

If you liked the highlights, don't forget to watch the full three and a half hour journey captured on the rear dash cam.

The Amazing Journey of the FACT Hail Mary Barge | Glimpse of Kochi

Welcome to the sights of Kochi!
Sharing with you the sightings of the Hail Mary barge that I saw during my morning commute this morning.
This barge, which carries ammonia from Willingdon Island to the FACT Ambalamedu unit, can handle up to 192 tonnes of ammonia in 12 bullet tanks. Built by FACT and Backwaters Navigation Company, the Hail Mary is a perfect example of the beautiful water journeys in the Kochi Bay.
I am offering you the beautiful sight of this large barge moving under the bridge!
